Benefits of Engineered Timber Flooring

Below are some of the key advantages that make engineered timber flooring a popular choice for homeowners:

  • Stability: The layered construction minimises expansion and contraction due to temperature or humidity changes, making it suitable for various environments. This minimises chances for boards bending and prevents gaps from developing between boards.
  • Durability: Engineered timber flooring has a sturdy composition that ensures resistance to wear, impact, and heavy foot traffic.
  • Natural Aesthetics: The real hardwood veneer brings the beauty and warmth of natural wood into your space, creating a timeless and inviting ambience. The addition of our LED Hardwax Oil means the coating penetrates the wood rather than sitting on top as a film, allowing the real timber to show through.
  • Versatility: Available in various wood species, grades, colours, and finishes, wooden engineered flooring complements a wide range of interior design styles.
  • Installation Flexibility: Engineered flooring can be installed using different methods, including floating, glue-down, or nail-down, catering to different preferences and needs. We recommend glueing down engineered timber floorboards to increase stability and avoid the ‘hollow sound’ when being used.
  • Easy Maintenance: A protective top layer provides resistance to stains and spills, making cleaning and maintenance a breeze.
  • Uniformity: Engineered timber flooring is manufactured to be more consistent in appearance compared to natural hardwood, resulting in a more uniform look across your space.

Installing Engineered Timber Flooring Over Concrete Slabs

Slab preparation: Ensure the slab is sound, dry (under 5.5% moisture), and has a level within 3mm deviation. In the floating installation, overlay the pads and create expansion gaps. Use glue for tongue and groove connections.

Once it is prepared, here are the methods you can use for installation:

  1. Direct Sticking onto an acoustic mat or directly onto a concrete slab: In this method, the installer will prepare the levelled slab by coating it with an epoxy moisture barrier then, they will either directly adhere floorboards to the mat using the same adhesive in a snake pattern or stick the boards to the membrane.
  2. Direct Sticking over ply over a slab: An expert will lay cross-laminated plywood with a moisture barrier underneath and secure it with pre-drilled sleeve pins. The next step is to glue it using a high-performing adhesive in a snake pattern after rough sanding the plywood.
  3. Installing over existing timber floorboards: It starts by smoothing and sanding existing boards. Once done, cross-laminated 4mm plywood is installed with the adhesive using a 3mm v-notched trowel. The same adhesive in a snake pattern on each board’s back, followed by secret nailing is then applied.
